In Copenhagen, was quartered 45-year-old Count Johann Friedrich von Struenze.Struenze, of German descent, was the personal physician of the weak-minded King Christian VII, who, thanks to an affair with a 20-year-old Queen Caroline Mathilde was, in fact, the ruler of Denmark.Over one and a half years of its activity Struenze issued about 600 very progressive laws and regulations: made transparent trial, proclaimed freedom of the press, religion, crafts and so on.
However, on the other hand, he made enemies, dismissing many officials without a pension.
There was another reason to hate him - the de facto, he made the German language only state in the country. This he has restored himself against almost all the people. But the peak of hatred was the fact that the queen gave birth to a daughter who, according to the Danes, was too similar to Struenze.
As a result, Caroline Mathilde was arrested along with Struenze, divorced from the king and expelled from the country. |
